Setting up your FTP program:
When
you open your FTP program, you will see a screen the same
as this in CuteFTP or simular in others.

Click
'Add site'. This option allows you to set-up a new
FTP account, so that you may upload files to your web site.
You
will now see the following dialog box.
You
will need to fill in the following information:
Site
Label: This can be anything you like. It is a label, enabling
you to identify the account within Cute FTP.
FTP host address: Issued in your welcome pack
Username (ID): Issued in your welcome pack
Password: Issued in your welcome pack
You
may wish to fill in details in the 'Initial Local Directory'.
or 'Initial Remote Directory' fields. These are not essential
and should only be used if you are sure of the paths you are
using. If unsure LEAVE BLANK.
If
you get these wrong, your FTP client may return errors.
Once
you have completed these details, click 'OK'. You will then
be taken back to the 'FTP Site Manager', where you will see
the account you have just added.
The
account will be seen as the Site Label that you chose. Below
you will see our example account set up as 'Main Web Site'.
Select
your chosen name, example "Main Web Site" then click
CONNECT.
Once
connected you will be faced with 2 screens. One left and one
right. The left one is your computer and the right your web
space at Wicked Web.
If
you have any problems following our setup instructions, more
detailed instructions are available from the CuteFTP website
link given above.
Uploading
Each
domain name hosted on our system has a 'home directory'. Within
this directory, you store all the HTML files, images, scripts,
databases and any other content associated with your website.
When
logged into the home directory via FTP you will see the following
folders:

htdocs
This is the folder that the website for your domain name points
to. Inside this folder, you should place your index.html file
as well as any other HTML files, scripts and images that make
up your website.
private
This folder is for advanced users. Scripts running on your
site have access to this folder but the folder is not directly
accessible from the web. You should place any databases your
site uses in this folder.
logfiles
Every time someone visits your site, the system updates the
current log file for your website. Your log files are stored
in this folder and you can download them and delete them as
you wish.
To
upload your files, simply double click on the file/s on the
LEFT which you wish to upload and simply watch them transfer
to your chosen directory on the right.
