Domain
Names
A
domain name is a unique address on the Internet which holds
information and services. A domain name can provide you, or
your business, many facilities. It can give you personalised
email addresses, a personal Web site (allowing you to take
advantage of all the Web has to offer, including e-commerce,
advertising, global sales etc), and lots more.
You
cannot BUY a domain; you can only register a domain name.
A few authorised companies around the world have taken the
job of delegating domain names for use. The process of acquiring
the use of a domain name is called registering
a domain. Wicked Web uses several of these authorised companies
(known as registrars) to register domain names.
It
is recommended that you register the co.uk, uk.co, uk.com
and the US, com versions of your domain name, if available.
This will prevent visitors of your domain name confusing you
with another company, who may later purchase a similar version
and steal your visitors.
You
may also want to consider registering other variants of your
domain name, including hyphens, abbreviations etc. (e.g. company-name.co.uk).
This will help in promoting your Internet presence - important.
You
can register a UK domain for any period from 1 to 10 years.
Currently US domains can only be registered for a period of
two years, after which time we will remind you to renew your
domain. If you fail to renew on time your domain will go back
to the registrars.
If
you wish to utilise our e-mail facilities, you may choose
up to a maximum of 40 e-mail addresses for each domain name
registered i.e anyone@yourcompany.co.uk.
